Important Dates & Times

Welcome to the District 4 Virginia History Day Contest Homepage!

Please keep in mind the important dates below for the 2020 competition:

  • February 27th- Student Registration Closes
  • March 10th- Contest Day

Teachers must first be registered before students will be able to register their projects. Please keep in mind that Registation Closes on February 27 at midnight. Papers and websites must also be submitted by midnight on February 27. Students submitting a documentary should submit the link to their video by Thursday, March 5.

The competition will take place at the Curry School of Education at UVA on Tuesday, March 10. Judging will take place from 9:30am-1:30pm, with an optional awards ceremony at 2:30pm.

A registration fee of $5 per student should be made to Virginia Humanities, c/o Cary Ferguson, 145 Ednam Drive Charlottesville VA 22903. Schools may send one payment on behalf of all of their students if that's preferred.

For students submitting papers or websites, the system locks at midnight on February 27. You will be unable to make changes to your paper or website until after judging on March 10.

Welcome Judges!

Thank you for Volunteering your time for our District History Day Competition. Please register by Thursday, February 27. Judges should arrive by 8:30 AM for a brief orientation session. Judging will take place from 9:30am-1:30pm with a break for lunch. Coffee, light breakfast items, and lunch are provided for all volunteers.

We will do our best to accomodate requests to judge particular categories.

Paper & Website Judges: Entries will be sent to you 1-2 days after the close of registration so that you will have sufficient time to review and read the papers and web content.
